GUIDELINES FOR GRANTING RESEARCH FUND

STUDENT

Eligibility

  • Any full-time UG / PG student (Except Final Year)
  • A group of students (min 3 and max 4) 
  • The group shall apply under the guidance of a faculty member, who is currently working in the departments/Centres.
  • Preference will be given to interdisciplinary projects (students coming from different branches)

 

Application 

  • The research proposal must be submitted in the prescribed format available in the R&D cell from the student’s team signed by the Guide and HoD. The fund will be distributed to the Guide for accountability.
  • The proposal needs to contain the objective(s), methodology and deliverables expected 
  • The proposal should contain details of budget requirement 

 

The funds shall be utilized for 

  • Fabrication of / units / equipments
  • Travel fund for attending/participation in Contest/Competitions
  • Consumables
  • Contingencies

 

Amount

The maximum amount that could be sanctioned shall be Rs.1,00,000/- per proposal.

 

Project Duration

The duration shall be a minimum of six months to maximum of 1 year.

 

Deliverables

  • Each project must have the following deliverables 
  • A report containing the result / outcome of the project 
  • List of identified contest/competitions
  • Delivery of a product / prototype / instrument / model / component / system / instrumentation, for architecture – design concept with executable working drawings

 

A letter with the above details and proof to be given by the faculty member (Guide) counter signed by the HOD.

Paper publication by the students in a National or International Journal/Conference and in the department societies/associations is Mandatory

 

Proposal Submission

The proposal should be submitted through the Head of the Department to the Principal and R&D Cell. Proposals shall be accepted twice a year in the months of July and January.

 

Proposal Selection

The Criteria fixed for allotting the seed money Project Proposals

  • Originality
  • Significance of the Research
  • Quality of Scientific / Engineering content
  • Credibility of design, methods, and tools
  • Relevance to social context
  • Availability of facilities for design and development
  • Availability of research expertise
  • Creativity / Innovative ideas
  • Possibility of filing Patent
  • Possibility of publishing research papers in National / International Journals / Conferences
  • Demonstration of the successful Completion of the project.

Funds will be allotted by the committee members based on the quality of the research projects and budget submitted.

 

 

The committee will distribute the funds in three installments

I Installment 50% of total sanctioned amount Once project is approved
II Installment 25% After completion of 50% work
III Installment 25% Demonstration model(On full completion)

 

  Department Panel Members
Group I Mechanical and Civil Engineering Sciences(Aero, Auto, Mech & Civil, MCT) Deans and HOD’s of respective Department with one subject expert (if necessary)
Group II Electrical and Electronics Sciences(EEE, ECE & EIE)

Group IV S&H
Group V MBA

 

            Pre-Final Selection will be made by the Director/SNS Technical Institutions, Principal, Deans & HOD. Based on the recommendation, the list shall be submitted for the final approval by the Management.

 

Settlement of Accounts

  1. The Head of the Department has to ensure that all the bills are in order; the items purchased with the seed money are handed over to the Department Inventory and to record it in the department stock register.
  2. The accounts related to the Research Project shall be settled by the Guide and students within the end date as per the split-up provided in the proposal.
  3. The Department will be eligible, for future submissions if only all previous project accounts have been satisfactorily settled (or) the department Research projects will be entertained only after the verification of Previous Project Accounts.

 

Intellectual Property Rights

  1. Any Intellectual Property Rights arising out of the project will be jointly owned by the Institution and the Inventor. (Inventor shall be Guide and Students).
  2. The guidelines issued by the institution for consultancy and sponsored research projects with regard to Patent, Technology Transfer and distribution of product/ software/prototype developed may vary from time to time.

 

Acknowledgement

The receipt of funds should be acknowledged in all related publications /patents/Commercialization

 

Certificate

On successful completion of the project, Guide and students shall receive a  project completion and appreciation certificate from the college.

 

Exit Clause - Non compliance of deliverables

  1. In case the students after taking up the research support scheme, withdraws (fail  to execute) then the  HOD shall recover the entire fund or the unutilized fund from Guide after obtaining  a written consent of all concerned. The purchases made shall be handed over to the Department.
  2. If the Guide, resigns from the Institution before completing the project, the accounts should be settled to the HoD, and the facilities and special equipment procured for the project should be handed over to the HoD for further action and only after that No-Dues shall be issued by the Department to the faculty member. New guide shall be allocated by the HoD after getting written consent from the R&D Cell.
  3. If the Guide, resigns from the Institution after completing the project successfully, the accounts should be settled to Office through department & R&D Cell, and the facilities and special equipment procured for the project should be handed over to the department, only after that No-Dues shall be issued by the Department to the faculty member.
  4. At the end of the project period, if the project is not completed with all the deliverables or is partly completed, a review committee constituted by the R & D Cell will evaluate the project and recommend the recovery of the amount sanctioned in full/part. If more than the project period is required, the review committee can recommend the project period further.
  5. Extension period of the Research Project will be decided by the Management.

 

Patent / Technology Transfer

Commercialization /obtaining patent/technology transfer to industry emerging from the funded project shall be over seen by the R & D Cell.

 

 

FACULTY

Eligibility

  • Any full time faculty of SNS-------- is eligible to apply
  • Faculty should have minimum of 3 years of experience (including 1 year at SNS Institutions)
  • Should have published Research papers in the area of proposal

 

Application 

  • The research proposal must be submitted in the prescribed format available in the R&D cell
  • Principal and HOD shall be accountable for the funds received
  • The proposal needs to contain the objective(s), methodology and deliverables expected 
  • The proposal should contain details of budget requirement 

 

The funds shall be utilized for 

  • Fabrication of / units / equipments
  • Travel fund for attending/participation in Contest/Competitions
